The Seasonal Selling Calendar: What to Stock Every Month
Month-by-month guide to keeping your stand profitable year-round with the right products at the right time.
The vendors who make consistent income don't disappear in winter. They adapt their offerings to the season. Here's your month-by-month guide.
January & February: The "Pantry" Months
Best sellers: Eggs, honey, jams & preserves, baked goods, firewood, hot sauce, soups in jars, handmade candles
Winter is when non-perishable and comfort items shine. If you bake, this is your peak season. Hot chocolate mix, bread, and cookies sell especially well. Firewood bundles are a consistent moneymaker.
March & April: Spring Awakening
Best sellers: Seedlings, herb starts, early greens (lettuce, spinach, kale), radishes, ramps, asparagus, flower bouquets (daffodils, tulips)
People are excited to garden and eat fresh again. Starter plants and seedlings are extremely profitable — a $0.10 seed becomes a $3-5 plant. Offer "garden starter kits" bundling herbs together.
May & June: The Ramp-Up
Best sellers: Strawberries, cherries, peas, green beans, herbs (basil, cilantro, mint), flowers, lettuce, radishes, early tomatoes
This is when traffic picks up significantly. Strawberries are a traffic magnet — put them front and center. Fresh-cut herbs sell fast because grocery store herbs wilt within days.
July & August: Peak Season
Best sellers: Tomatoes, corn, peppers, cucumbers, zucchini, melons, peaches, blueberries, blackberries, sunflowers
This is your highest-volume period. Stock heavy and restock often. Tomatoes and sweet corn are the #1 and #2 best-selling honesty stand items nationally. Offer combo deals: "Tomatoes + Basil + Cucumber = $8 Salad Kit."
September & October: Harvest Festival
Best sellers: Apples, pumpkins, squash, gourds, mums, cider, pears, root vegetables, dried flowers, corn stalks
Decoration items (pumpkins, gourds, mums, corn stalks) can be as profitable as food. Many vendors report October as their highest-revenue month because of fall decoration demand.
November & December: Holiday Season
Best sellers: Wreaths, Christmas trees, gift baskets, baked goods, preserves, honey, maple syrup, candles, potpourri
Gift-ready packaging is key. A $5 jar of honey in a $1 gift bag with a ribbon becomes a $9 gift item. Pre-made gift baskets with local products can sell for $25-50+ and are very popular.
Year-Round Winners
These sell consistently regardless of season:
- Eggs — The single most reliable honesty stand product
- Honey — High margin, long shelf life
- Baked goods — Bread, cookies, pies
- Cut flowers — Spring through fall
- Firewood — Fall through spring
Pro Tip: The Transition
Don't go from full summer stand to closed for winter overnight. Gradually transition your offerings. Customers who see a bare stand assume you've shut down. Keep even a small selection available and they'll keep coming back.
